johns hopkins student and residential life and retail study

We collaborated with Johns Hopkins University on an in-depth study for residential life, student life, and retail for the Homewood campus. The plan provided an integrated strategy that maximizes site opportunities, capitalizes on existing buildings and infrastructure, reinforces the campus’ urban attributes, creates multiple nodes of activity, and campus-wide vibrant environments. Our key considerations were the university’s culture and mission, quantitative data and analysis leading to a series of urban design studies and mixed-used program ideas, a capacity analysis, the renewal potential of existing buildings, retail and residential market dynamics, a proactive attitude toward capital and operating budget impacts, and the revitalization of the city neighborhood directly adjacent to the campus.
