the ohio state university health sciences district plan

Our detailed study of The Ohio State University’s health sciences district focused on applying a “one patient” philosophy to the academic medical center’s educational, research, and clinical missions. The goal was to integrate these missions across the various health science colleges, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and optometry. Specific challenges included the future of learning, connecting bench research within the health sciences and across the university, creation of a new clinical growth zone, in-depth planning work for a billion dollar hospital expansion now nearing completion, and urban design thinking for the district with an emphasis on organizing open space ideas and instilling clarity in the circulation system. Compelling ideas resulted, including an inter-disciplinary learning and simulation center, and an integrated clinic building that would allow inter-professional teams to comprehensively address patient needs.
