We supported our friends at Lee Partners in assisting the Washington National Cathedral in creating its new strategic plan. The plan’s pillars are anchored in four key areas: Welcoming, Deepening, Convening, and Serving. The plan also explored ways to reopen and reimagine the Cathedral College and to position it as a major contributor to the Cathedral’s strategic goals. Our role on the team was to provide advice throughout, to explore the physical potential of the Cathedral Close, and to help establish financial priorities, and to ensure the financial viability of the plan’s proposed actions. To this end, we participated in key stakeholder meetings, explored the Cathedral’s current use of its facilities, imagined potential future uses and reinvestment scenarios, and developed a detailed financial model that tested various scenarios for the College, and ultimately allowed for a recommendation as to the reopened College’s use. We also advised on an overall strategic financial model for the Cathedral, which will help to establish operating and capital budget imperatives moving forward.
